In recent years, a large number of foreign students have come to China to study medicine. The international education of medical degree develops fast in our country and the scale continues to expand, which has become one of the most active fields in international education. 

Since the implementation of the policies of reform and opening to the outside world in China, the scale of foreign students coming to China is expanding constantly. Statistics of Ministry of Education reveal that every year more than 78,000 international students come to China to study Medical, Engineering and Business Program etc. and the increasing degree of the quantity of foreign students coming to China has been keeping above 20% all the time since 2000. China is fast becoming the most favored destination in Asia. In 2009 a total of 238,000 foreign students from 190 countries and regions came to China, among them, the number of medical students exceeded 32,000, which had become the largest group among the foreign students except the language counterpart(Chinese) and the number keeps increasing year by year. In 2013, the number of foreign medical students studying medicine in China had exceeded 50,000. The students are from South Asia?India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh , Nepal , Bhutan ?, South-East Asia (Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, etc), Africa content ( South Africa, Kenya, Ghana, Mauritius, Cameroon, Zimbabwe ,Sudan ,Ethiopia , Zambia, Tanzania, etc), Middle East countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Yemen, Qatar  etc) , America content ( Jamaica, Guyana, USA, Canada), European Content ( UK, Portugal?Sweden,Ireland etc), Pacific Ocean Content(Papua New Guinea?Australia, New Zealand, etc). Under the wave of the internationalization of higher education in our country, behind the passion of "go to China to study medicine", it is Chinese medical level and quality of medical education receiving more and more international recognition.

Why it is favored by so many students from various countries and regions around the world to come to China to study medicine? I think there are mainly nine reasons.

Firstly, China’s medical education has been widely recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as well as European and American developed countries and regions. Most of the Medical Schools in China are recognized in the WHO’s "Directory of World Medical Schools". This listing makes a student graduating from such Medical Universities and Medical Colleges in China eligible to appear for many of the screening tests like the USMLE, PLAB and also the newly introduced "Screening examination" conducted by the National Board of Examinations of India under the directive of the Medical Council of India. 

Secondly, China has assured quality of medical education. China’s highly reputed medical technology is the premise of the quality of medical education. After more than 30 years’ reform, our country’s medical technology has achieved significant improvement and has reached the advanced level of the world.

Thirdly, China has unique medical resources. Medicine is a practical major and China’s huge population base determines rich resources of cases and diseases. Foreign students can have internship here or they can finish it in their home country.

Fourthly, the great educational infrastructure and the availability of instruction in the English medium in China bring convenience to the overseas students. More and more Chinese universities have made courses available to students in the English medium.

Fifthly, the degree of opening of the Chinese society is being strengthened constantly, which offers more chances to foreign students to make them give full play to their ability.

Sixthly, with the development of China’s economy?a lot of world big enterprises, big companies are garrisoning in China constantly, and economic development and exchange must promote the international floating of professionals.

Seventhly, compared with the European and American countries, the cheap cost is also a big advantage of our medical education to attract so many foreign students.

Eighthly, magnificent Chinese culture is extremely attractive to a lot of foreigners.

Ninthly, China has a quite promising medical market. With the growth in China’s economy and society, the hospital of our country builds and develops at the pace quickly too. With the deepening of health care reform of our country, opening to the outside world with the medical market?every aspect is in line with international standards. It is predicted that the medical market of China will develop at the speed of 15%-20% in the following five years, will reach 24 billion dollars by 2010, and will become the fifth largest medical market of world after France, Germany, Japan, and U.S.A. In 2020, we will be up to 120 billion, thus will exceed U.S.A. and become the largest market in the world.

This has lead to an ever increasing number of international students making their way to China to study like the General Medicine and Surgery (MBBS)? Dental Surgery course or dentistry (BDS), Pharmacy, Nursing, Master degree or PG ( Postgraduate) like M.D/M.S/M.D.S Course, Doctoral degree or PHD. For MBBS and BDS, here are some details introduction because these two degrees are mostly favored and commonly chosen by nearly all foreign students. 

The first question most foreign students concern is how to get MBBS admission in China or what qualification should they have to be admitted for MBBS degree in China? (a).An applicant should be minimum a high secondary graduate with good health and without criminal record, applicants for Dental program should be used to right hand to operate. (b).Applicants must have passed Grade twelve (10+2) or equivalent. (c).Applicants should have minimum 60% score in each science subjects (PCB): Physics, Chemistry and Biology. (d). Among all the subjects, English Language is as a compulsory one and the level is good. (e). Age should be minimum 18 years old at the time of admission or will complete this age on 31st October of the year of his/her admission

After the admission, how is MBBS degree awarded in China after years of study? Upon graduation, students need to pass the HSK 3. On completing the requirements of the teaching program and passing the graduation examinations successfully, international medical undergraduates will be granted a graduation certificate and conferred a medical degree, if they meet the degree regulations of the university. The English copy of the degree will state MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery). 

Apart from MBBS, BDS is also a good choice. The Chinese dental education system has obtained major improvement over the past three decades. A number of international approaches have been adopted for the modification of the dental curriculum. Much emphasis had been placed on oral pathology, oral medicine and maxillofacial surgery, etc in the curriculum of Stomatology in Chinese dental schools. For international students, the syllabus is entirely based on international standard. 

Then how to get admission of BDS program for a foreign student?

Applicants for dental program should be used to right hand to operate besides the same qualifications of MBBS as above. Graduates must pass the licensure examination to practice dentistry.

Chinese medical education is cultivating talents for lots of general hospitals and basic medical institutions of many European and American countries.
